Tegucigalpa

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Driving into Tegucigalpa was insane, by far the craziest city yet. We had planned to go terrorize the town, but ended up in a STRAGE place, so we pulled the plug and called it a night.

They need armed guards in front of everything there. This guy was guarding a small coffee shop.

They just got Biodiesel to the pump here. It is taking some time to catch on, but people are confident that it will create a great example throughout central america.

They are using it a bunch in the public transportation throughout the city which is a great start.

Biodiesel Comes to Hondouras!

Monday, October 30th, 2006

This was a big surprise. It didn´t take us long to figure out that Hondouras has big plans to start mass producing Biodiesel and break free from the massive importation of foreign oil.

They just opened a pump in La Ceiba that sells locally grown Biodiesel mixed with Diesel.

Back in the day, they started all these big plantations of African Palm to make vegetable oil and soap. There just wasn´t enough of a demand for the stuff, and before long, they virtually stopped producing it, and the farms weren´t being used. Now, the government here is planning to go so huge on on Biodiesel that local forresters are concerned about deforestation of the forrest and wetlands.

Regardless, they have a lot of African Palm already producing oil.

More Islands…

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

We tried to go to this high society italian beach on the island of Roatan, but we got on the wrong boat.

Tyler put on a circus show on the front of the ferry.

We ended up on another island called Utilla, and little did we know it was twice as cool, and we rocked it out for the Saturday Haloween party.

A special thanks to all the folks at Tranquillas for handing over the trophies to the rightful winners of the costume party.

Rio Congregal

Friday, October 27th, 2006

The water was a little low, but we sure made the best of it. For those of you kayakers out there…..This river is the gem run of Central America….a total classic. It reminded me of the South Fork of the Salmon near Forks of the Salmon, California. It was a thrown room of polished granite.

It didn´t exactly have any big hucks, but we did our best to keep it real.

Back to The Carribean!!!

It was a tough decision, to drive all the way back across Hondouras, but the right one. We have bunch of University Presentations and Community Demos set to jet in Managua, Nicaragua, but our schedule got thrown off a bit because of the elections on the 1-7 of November this coming week. So, we are killing some time rallying around Hondouras for an extra week!

The dicotecques in La Ceiba were a little strange, we don´t reccomend that place for too long of a stay.

We ran into the Miss Hondouras contenders at a party…….

Point and shoot meal of the week: Plato de Garifunk-oh. A fish head with a bowl of banannas!

ElSalvador21.jpg

We took a little detour from the Panamerican Highway to head back to the Caribbean for some more action.

Hondouras3.jpg

It was a long 2 days in the truck.  Benny and Nick are just acclimatizing to the long days driving.

We saw some nasty car wrecks right before our eyes.

And we burned a lot of Guatemalan Pig oil in the process!

Rio Paz

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

As you can see, El Salvador has been a full package deal, offering everything we set out for. Surf, Schools, Kayaking, Media and plenty of folks stoked to rally behind the cause. We continued the theme this weekend.

After the Irish boys arrived, we got to paddle one of the best runs so far on the trip, right on the border of El Salvador and Guatemala. This was their first day on the trip!

It had classic whitewater and amazing scenery.

The Irish Boyz….on Board!

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

We haven’t had anyone more enthusiastic about sitting in the back seat to date.  These guys are making us laugh around the clock, literally so so much good humor.  We are so stoked to have them on board, they have brought an indescribable great new energy to the trip.
